I was out driving, just takin' it slow
Looked at the tank, yeah was readin' low
Pulled into a gas station out there on Highway 1
Held Up Without A Gun!
Interestingly enough, with inflation integrated, fuel prices then were about what they are today. It was $1.43 at the pump. In today's dollar that amounts to $3.02. So, equal more or less. The ARCO station down the street was actually at $3.14 today.
OK,But now the bad news. before 1981 we had the oil embargo and all that noise and nonsense in the 1970s. After 1981 fuel prices sank for two decades and in 2000 you were paying $1.62 per gallon which would be $1.82 in today's dollar.
So what's the point? The message is that in the last eight years the price of gas has rocketed roughly 35% again with inflation integrated, without inflation the difference is, naturally, higher. And, more alarming, there is no cause to be positive that the rise will halt or there will be any change in direction in any near
future. Definitely not with the worth of the dollar at such a low level and where it might head down to and with OPEC considering right now about possibly dropping the dollar as reserve currency and additionally with the price of a barrel of oil doubling two times in the last 8 years!
It's the Titanic, folks, and we are heading rapidly towards the iceberg. Wanna keep driving your fancy automobile? Or even your decrepid oldcar? Well you best take some effective action! Better locate a bed post to use as a raft!
