Gasoline Prices A New Look By GARKO This is a brief summary of 1. long term and recent history of fuel prices 2. price of fuel compared to other consumables 3. the reason we hate the oil companies 4. taking matters into your own hands
It seems so long ago and it certainly was a different planet back then. But just before the events of 911 a barrel of crude oil cost $18! Now it is over $100! But what does a dollar buy now? Certainly it purchases considerably less than it bought seven years ago. This much we know for sure. After all, the mass media tells us every day about the incredible shrinking dollar. Accounting for inflation we get a very different calculation of the cost per a gallon of fuel than our eyeballs tell us when we see a 3 or a 4 at the fuel station just East of the dollar sign. If we consider the price of fuel commensurate to wages in 1920 we would now be looking at a gallon of fuel costing over ten dollars! It can accurately be viewed that the cost of a gallon of fuel has declined since the 1920s continuously if factors such as overall increase in prices and wages are appropriately considered. Another fact that Americans might choose to be thankful for in regards to one of life's annoyances, is the comparison of fuel prices in the USA compared to Europe. A gallon of fuel in Europe is now pushing $5 or more. And what is most unfairl is that approximately half of that covers only oppressive taxes! In the USA, the percent that you pay on a gallon of fuel that actually goes to taxes, including inflation, which Dr Ron Paul properly labels a tax, is about one quarter or just over 70 cents. Without considering inflation as a tax the amount is about 45 cents or around 13% compared to 50% in Europe. (Of course we are also
paying 10% inflation whether you wish to label it as a tax or not).
Now, let's do some comparison of what a gallon of fuel costs in relation to one gallon of other every day items if they were sold by the gallon, this will surprise you. A gallon of milk is $2.99, compared to a gallon of fuel which is currently roughly $3.25 or so. A gallon of shampoo is approximately $40. A gallon of genuine maple syrup is approximately $57. Jack Daniels is approximately $100 per gallon! A gallon of Crisco oil is approximately $75 and a gallon of nasal spray is approximately $2.615!
So why do we make such a big fuss about the price of a gallon of fuel? I consider that there are two causes and one is the profit margin of the oil companies and the other is the speed at which a gallon of fuel is used up.
For instance, how much time does a gallon of fuel last you? Ok, how long would a gallon of nasal spray last you (depends on the hugeness of your nose I propose ha ha)? How long could a gallon of Jack Daniels last you? Maybe you shouldn't answer that one!
So that is one reason. And another is how much profit the oil companies rake in and the perceived greed of these companies starting in the days of Rockefeller and more recently to J R Ewing!! In the first three months of 2007, Exxon profited $8 billion. They average around 10% profit on EACH dollar worth of fuel sold
So it is not the price of a gallon of fuel more a matter of how rapidly we burn up a gallon of fuel and the intolerable profit margin taken per gallon by robber barons who we see as wanting to screw us for a buck.
So the real solution is in how do we increase our fuel economy
And the best answer to that is by converting from gas to gas/hydrogen hybrid engines, thereby increasing our fuel economy by 25-35% or more. Or by converting to a fuel cell hydrogen only system which means you will never have to pay for another gallon of fuel for the rest of your life! Entrepreneur, songwriter, activist and consumer advocate, GARKO, shows you how to save gas and drive more and how to save fuel and gas through hydrogen generation which is the best of the inexpensive ways to save gas For a list of current fuel prices in your neighborhood email garko@startlingdiscoveries.info
