Green Chevy Equinox To Debut At Globe
By Anthony Fontanelle

Happening today is the Globe 2008 event Auto Future Tech Summit which is a gathering of some of the experts in the auto industry who talk about what the future of the industry would hold. The latest gadgets, technologies, and techniques developed would be showcased and shared with those who would be attending the summit held in Vancouver, Canada.

One of the latest vehicles which would be making an appearance at the mentioned event is the Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell. This vehicle is not exactly a Chevy 4x4 but this vehicle has been made to be unique for it comes using fuel cells. At present, General Motors' team in Canada are currently working on the vehicle and creating units so as to make the vehicle part of a vehicle fleet that uses fuel cells and this fleet is going to be the largest of its kind in the world.

The Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell vehicle is built as a crossover vehicle and it comes using the company's fuel cell propulsion system which is already in its fourth

generation. It comes with the usual set of features that come with GM vehicles.

Beth Lowery is the vice president for GM's environment, energy, and safety policy and on the vehicle, she disclosed, "Fuel cells and the electrification of the vehicle have the potential to literally change the way the world drives. The Equinox fuel cell uses no petroleum, has zero emission and the only thing coming out of the tailpipe is water."

General Motors is also working on a plan which they are calling Project Driveway. This campaign has been designed so as to help experts learn more about how customers perceive fuel cell vehicles and just how these vehicles do in the market. There would be groups of drivers who would be taking part of the study and these drivers would be from different social statuses and classes. The studies would be done in three areas - California, Washington, DC and New York's metropolitan area - which has hydrogen refueling stations.

Lowery did continue to share, "At GM we believe that progress will require a diverse range of advanced vehicle technologies. From small fuel efficient cars and biofuels to our commitment to hybrids, with eight hybrids on the road by the end of this year and the future of electric drive vehicles, we are committed to providing consumers with more green choices that meet all their driving needs."

Anthony Fontanelle is a 35-year-old automotive buff who grew up in the Windy City. He does freelance work for an automotive magazine when he is not busy customizing cars in his shop.
