What Are Fuel Pumps For?
By Anthony Fontanelle

Most modern vehicles need fuel for them to run. During combustion, the engine burns fuel to produce energy that sets a vehicle in motion. Fuel needs to be pumped from the fuel tank to the engine through the carburetor or fuel injection system. A metallic device called fuel pump carries out such fuel delivery mechanism. For Japanese-manufactured Honda cars, the Honda fuel pump can work either mechanically or electrically.

Before the introduction of the fuel injection system, the fuel pump operated with a lobe on the engine's camshaft by bolting the pump to the engine block or head. In a fuel-injected engine, the Honda fuel pump can be found inside the fuel tank and is usually run by electricity. Sometimes, two fuel pumps are used to ensure the release of the right amount of pressure. One exerts a low pressure, while the other gives

high pressure. The Honda fuel pump consistently delivers fuel to the engine. Meanwhile, the unused fuel is returned to the fuel tank. This improves fuel efficiency and boosts engine performance. Not only that, the location of the Honda fuel pump prevents fuel boiling.

Honda fuel pumps are important components of a car-without it, the engine fails to function properly. If the fuel pump of your Honda malfunctions, you must check the pump's voltage supply and electrical connections. Some of the leading causes of fuel pump failure are open relay, blown fuse, or loose wire. Low battery voltage, which reduces the pump motor's speed, can also deter the pump from producing pressure.
