In the past few weeks, I have been busily working to dig up any actual handlings for obtaining lower fuel consumption and I dug up an interesting correlation. The tips that actually work to increase fuel economy also save you on extra repairs being required on your vehicle brought on by poor driving habits.
Unless you are paying hundreds of dollars every year to keep your vehicle under complete a-z warranty or you have a masochistic streak which aberratedly enjoys dragging your crippled car to the repair shop and being held up without a gun with unnecessary repairs being required on your vehicle and having your automobile sit for days at the repair shop while you take the subways and worry about it like a new daddy-to-be in a maternity ward then you might desire to heed these suggestions. Saving money on gas and on repairs being required on your vehicle are cousins.
Consider what else you could do with the cash that you are wasting on unnecessary work needing to be done on your vehicle . Take a cruise? Get a better auto? Install a home theater system? Absolutely there are more optimum things you can use your cash for than pouring it into your automobile!
Don't make like you are a NASCAR driver every time you get released from a red light. it wastes gas in a hurry and it will result in the need for unnecessary repairs. Try to treat your auto like you would treat your main squeeze. Uh. maybe better!
Speeding down the freeway as if it was the autobahn can reduce your auto's gas mileage by 33 percent. Aside from being dangerous (I have witnessed more than one auto speed and flip over when it had to perform a sudden turn that neither the driver nor the vehicle were ready to execute) it also is just not wise economically. The government wants us to believe that a incompetently trained hijacker on 911 did an almost 180 degree about face in mid air at top velocity to crash into the wrong side of the Pentagon (the side the plane was said to be headed towards was where the brass and top officials were and the side that was hit by something was still under renovations), a maneuver that the world's greatest top gun might have accomplished
in 1 out of 1 million chances (and could have only tried one time) but that definitely you wouldn't want to find yourself in a position on the freeway requiring you to execute a similar maneuver. So.slow down!!
Drive with some intelligence and awareness of your vehicle. Power corrupts. yeah I got it. So go have a revolution but stop taking the little bit of power that your vehicle engine affords you and become totally corrupt in the use of that power!. Slowly speed up after every stop sign and red light. Be easy on the accelerator out on the highway. You don't need to drive like a Miami retiree and become a problem but you don't have to be a runaway train either.
This is especially pertinent with an automatic transmission. It will work tons better with a slower acceleration.
Other suggestions are just plain contradictory or wrong... I found several articles that say don't use your AC which is great if you are a resident of or it is in the summer in Manhattan! Then I found one article that recommends to keep your vehicle's windows open in the city streets but to use the AC while on the highways because if you have the windows open while driving above 55MPH causes drag which lessens fuel mileage. Who's right? Who's wrong? Who cares? Does it increase fuel economy? No, probably not!
The only bona fide solution to reduce your fuel consumption, with gas prices in the $3-4.50 range up and down over the last year or so is to disconnect your umbilical cord... the one that chains you to the gas pump and drop your chains of slavery to the oil companies and....
Convert to a hydrogen engine!

Convert your fuel engine to hydrogen.
If you do a partial (hybrid) conversion then you should see improved fuel economy of up to 30% maybe more.
If you do this and also add acetone to your gas tank (which will save you another 25% or so) then you will have improved your fuel economy by a combined 50%! Put in about 2-3 ounces of acetone per 10 gallons of fuel and the fuel will vaporize less easily and you reduce your fuel consumption by 25% or more.
If you do a full gas to hydrogen conversion then you will never have to pump another gallon of fuel for the rest of your life. It is a piece of cake to do, costs next to nothing, doesn't pollute the environment and you will have the reward of knowing that you are helping to conserve resources instead of using up more than your fair share.
